Six British clubs learned their opponents for the UEFA Europa League and UEFA Conference League league phases in Friday's draw, with Sunderland and Bournemouth drawn against Italian giants AC Milan, while Crystal Palace have a home clash with Real Sociedad and Celtic face Marseille.

In the Conference League, Brighton & Hove Albion are up against former French champions Monaco, and play Panathinaikos and Getafe.

Hearts, meanwhile, also take on Monaco, with matches against Mohamed Salah's Trabzonspor and Nordsjaelland.

The Europa League league phase gets underway on Wednesday, September 16, with the final round of fixtures scheduled for January 28.

The Conference League league phase starts later, on Thursday, October 15, and comes to a conclusion on Thursday, December 17.

The exact fixture schedule, including dates and kick-off times, will be confirmed by Sunday.

  • Sunderland set for San Siro visit

Sunderland fans will be making plans to travel to Milan after learning of a clash with the five-time UEFA Champions League winners at San Siro.

Back in European competition for the first time since 1973, it promises to be an exciting campaign for The Black Cats.

Five years ago, Sunderland were playing Wycombe Wanderers in League One at the Stadium of Light.

This season, they will welcome AZ Alkmaar, Dinamo Zagreb, Jagiellonia and Levski Sofia to the North East.

As well as Milan, Sunderland fans can look forward to trips to Belgian side Anderlecht, Polish outfit Lech Poznan and Portuguese team Torreense.

  • Cherries host Milan and travel to Spain

Bournemouth's ascent to European football would have scarcely been believable only a few years ago, but Marco Rose's side will have big ambitions in the Europa League.

They have been given a mouthwatering tie against Milan at the Vitality and go to northern Spain twice, to play Real Sociedad and Celta Vigo.

Viktoria Plzen, Sturm Graz and Hapoel Beer-Sheva all travel to the south coast and The Cherries also have away matches against Sparta Prague and Lillestrom.

  • Palace out for more European glory

Crystal Palace have a new manager in Pierre Sage but they will be hungry for more success in Europe after last season's Conference League triumph.

The step up to the Europa League is significant, and The Eagles have some tricky-looking fixtures, including trips to Lyon, Red Bull Salzburg and Besiktas.

Palace are at home to Real Sociedad, Sparta Prague, Lech Poznan and Hoffenheim.

  • Celtic hope for improvement in Europa League

Defeat to LASK in the Champions League play-offs will still sting for Celtic, who had looked set to play in Europe's most prestigious competition having lead 3-0 after the first leg.

Except they were thumped 5-1 in the reverse fixture and will now play in the Europa League league phase, where they will host Marseille, Ferencvaros, Celta Vigo and Besiktas.

Perhaps the Scottish champions' most difficult tie is a trip to Benfica.

Celtic: Marseille (H), Benfica (A), Ferencvaros (H), Union SG (A), Celta Vigo (H), Omonia (A), Besiktas (H), Torreense (A).

  • Brighton and Hearts learn Conference League opponents

Brighton will be among the favourites to win the Conference League and follow in the footsteps of domestic rivals Palace.

They face Monaco, Universitatea Craiova and Kauno Zalgiris at home, with away trips to Panathinaikos, Getafe and Jablonec.

Hearts welcome Monaco, Borac and Nordsjaelland to Edinburgh, with away games against Pafos, Trabzonspor and Thun.
