FIFA lifts Karela United transfer ban after settling Sana Camara's debt

Ghana Premier League side Karela United are free to register new players again after FIFA permanently lifted the club's transfer ban following the settlement of an outstanding payment dispute with former player Sana Camara.

In a letter dated 20 August 2026, FIFA's Head of Disciplinary, Americo Espallargas, confirmed that disciplinary proceedings against the club had been closed after Camara acknowledged receiving the money owed to him.

The governing body said the payment had been made in accordance with an earlier ruling in the case and that Karela's ban on registering new players had been "permanently lifted".

FIFA also instructed the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to remove the corresponding ban at national level with immediate effect.

"The present proceedings against the Respondent are hereby closed and its ban on registering any new players has been permanently lifted," the letter said.

The world governing body added that its instruction related specifically to the Camara case and would not affect any other disciplinary sanctions that may apply to the club.

Karela had been placed under a FIFA registration ban after failing to meet its financial obligations to Camara, preventing the club from signing new players while the dispute remained unresolved.

The latest decision clears the way for the Ghanaian club to strengthen its squad ahead of the 2026-27 season, provided the GFA implements FIFA's directive.

The correspondence was also copied to Sana Camara and the Ghana Football Association, confirming that the matter has now been concluded.
