This is not the colour of medal I wanted - Amadu Mohammed weeps At 2026 Commonwealth Games

Ghanaian boxer Amadu Mohammed has vowed to come back stronger after settling for a bronze medal in the men's 55kg boxing event at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

The talented boxer secured Team Ghana's only boxing medal at the Games after reaching the semifinals, where his campaign ended following a defeat to Australia's Luke Lyle.

Despite earning a place on the podium, Mohammed was visibly emotional after the bout, breaking down in tears as the result was announced.

Speaking to journalists afterwards, the disappointed boxer admitted that winning bronze fell short of his ambitions.

"This is not the colour of medal I wanted. I wanted the ultimate gold, but I will come back stronger because this is the will of God," he said.

Mohammed, who trains under respected coach Gabriel "Zico" Allotey at Sea View Boxing Club, was the lone Ghanaian boxer to win a medal from the 10-member boxing team that represented the country at the Games.

His latest achievement further enhances an impressive career that has already seen him recognised by the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG). Following his Commonwealth Games success, the boxer is expected to be among the contenders for another SWAG honour.

Mohammed announced himself on the continental stage by winning gold at the 2023 African Games, and many believe he has the potential to achieve even greater success with improved preparation, increased international exposure and sustained support ahead of future global competitions, including the Olympic Games.

At the previous Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, Ghana finished with five medals, comprising two silver medals—including one in boxing—and three bronze medals, two of which came from the boxing team.
