Ghanaian swimmer Abeiku Jackson has advanced to the semi-finals of the men’s 50m event at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games following an impressive showing in the heats.
Jackson produced a personal improvement on his entry time, clocking 24.11 seconds after starting with a seed time of 24.22 seconds to earn an automatic qualification place.
The Ghanaian finished fourth in his heat and ranked 14th overall among 70 competitors, boosting Team Ghana’s hopes of making an impact in the swimming competition.
Canada’s Joshua Liendo emerged as the fastest qualifier after topping the heats with a time of 23.66 seconds. Australia’s Cam McEvoy and England’s Jacob Peters followed closely, both recording 23.74 seconds.
However, Ghana’s Unilez Takyi was unable to progress in the women’s event after missing out on qualification.
Takyi finished seventh in her heat with a time of 27.13 seconds, ending her campaign in the discipline.
Ghana’s 4x100m medley relay team also failed to make it through to the semi-finals after finishing their heat in 4:16.85. The result placed the team 15th overall among the 19 participating nations.
