Carlos Queiroz’s future should be decided after AFCON 2027 qualifiers – Bibiani Gold Stars CEO

Bibiani Gold Stars Chief Executive Officer Akwasi Adu believes a decision on the future of Carlos Queiroz as Black Stars head coach should only be made after Ghana’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying campaign.

The experienced Portuguese coach was appointed on a short-term contract ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America after replacing Otto Addo, who was relieved of his duties in March following a disappointing run of results.

Queiroz guided Ghana to the knockout stage of the World Cup, marking the first time the Black Stars had reached that phase of the competition since the 2010 tournament in South Africa.

Following the tournament, the former Iran and Egypt manager appeared to suggest his departure from the team in a social media post, sparking speculation over his future. However, Queiroz later dismissed reports that he had stepped down from his position.

While President John Dramani Mahama has called on authorities to persuade the veteran tactician to remain in charge, Akwasi Adu believes Ghana should wait until after the AFCON qualifiers before making any decision regarding the coach.

“Decision on sacking Carlos Queiroz should be considered after AFCON qualifiers,” he told Asempa FM.

The Black Stars will now turn their attention to the road to the 2027 AFCON, with qualifiers scheduled to begin in September.

Ghana has been drawn in Group C alongside Gambia, Ivory Coast and Somalia as the four-time African champions aim to return to the continental showpiece after missing the 2025 edition in Morocco.
