Abdul Fatawu Issahaku excited by Ipswich Town ambition after sealing five-year deal

Ghana international Abdul Fatawu Issahaku has expressed his delight after completing a permanent move to Premier League newcomers Ipswich Town, describing the club's ambition as a major factor behind his decision.

The 22-year-old winger joined Ipswich from Leicester City on a five-year contract that will keep him at Portman Road until the summer of 2031, becoming one of the club's key additions ahead of the 2026/27 Premier League campaign.

Speaking after the transfer was confirmed, Issahaku said he is eager to begin the next chapter of his career and help the Tractor Boys establish themselves in the English top flight.

“I am proud to have signed for Ipswich Town,” Abdul told the club website.

“The ambition the club has is very exciting, and I’m looking forward to being a part of that as we prepare for the Premier League season. After speaking to the manager (Gary O’Neil), I know what the expectation is, and I’m looking forward to meeting my teammates and starting work.

Issahaku also acknowledged the passionate support enjoyed by the Suffolk-based club, having faced Ipswich several times during his spell in English football.

"I have played against Ipswich a few times during my time in England and I know how passionate the supporters are for the club, so I'm excited to play for them and show them what I can do."

The move marks a fresh start for the talented Ghanaian, who spent the last three years at Leicester City after initially arriving on loan from Sporting CP before completing a permanent switch.

During his time with the Foxes, Issahaku established himself as one of the club's brightest attacking talents with his pace, creativity and ability to influence matches from the flanks.

Issahaku has already linked up with his new teammates during the club's pre-season training camp in La Manga, Spain, where preparations are underway for the 2026/27 campaign.

The former Dreams FC star will now aim to make an immediate impact at Portman Road as he looks to establish himself in the Premier League while continuing to play a key role for Ghana's Black Stars.
