Abdul Fatawu Issahaku seals permanent Ipswich Town switch on five-year deal

Ghana international Abdul Fatawu Issahaku has completed a permanent transfer to Premier League newcomers Ipswich Town from Leicester City ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The 22-year-old winger has signed a five-year contract with the Tractor Boys, committing his future to the club until the summer of 2031.

Issahaku has already linked up with his new teammates at the club's pre-season training camp in La Manga, Spain, as Ipswich intensify preparations for their return to the Premier League.

The highly-rated attacker arrives after an impressive campaign with Leicester City, where he scored nine goals in 44 Championship appearances. His performances played a significant role during the season and further highlighted his growing influence in English football.

The Ghanaian also enhanced his reputation on the international stage during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, featuring in all four of the Black Stars' matches as Ghana reached the knockout stages of the tournament.

Fatawu's rise began at Ghanaian side Steadfast FC before a loan spell at Dreams FC earned him a move to Portuguese giants Sporting CP in 2022. He later joined Leicester City, helping the Foxes secure promotion to the Premier League during the 2023/24 campaign before establishing himself as one of the club's key attacking players.

Since making his senior debut for Ghana, Issahaku has accumulated 32 international appearances and represented the Black Stars at both the 2022 and 2026 FIFA World Cups.

He first announced himself on the continental stage in 2021, inspiring Ghana to the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations title and finishing the tournament as its Best Player, a performance that cemented his status as one of the country's brightest young talents.
