Nii Odartey Lamptey calls for better renumeration for Ghanaian coaches, reveals salary dispute with Eleven Wonders

Former Black Stars midfielder Nii Odartey Lamptey has called for improved welfare packages for football coaches in Ghana, insisting that poor remuneration is limiting their ability to develop professionally and contribute to the growth of the game.

The former Ghana international, who enjoyed a decorated career both domestically and abroad, believes coaches must be financially supported to enable them to upgrade their knowledge, pursue further training, and improve the overall quality of football in the country.

Lamptey, reflecting on the difference between football during his playing days and the modern era, explained that coaches in the past often worked with naturally talented players and only needed to make small improvements to their abilities.

“During our time, the players were very good, so the coaches only added a little. But today, how can coaches upgrade themselves without being paid?” he questioned during an interview with Asempa FM.

The former PSV Eindhoven star argued that the demands on coaches have increased significantly, making it necessary for clubs and football authorities to create better conditions that allow them to grow and succeed.

Lamptey also disclosed that he is currently involved in a legal battle with Ghana Premier League side Eleven Wonders over unpaid wages.

According to the former Black Stars midfielder, the club owes him eight months’ salary, with the issue now before the courts.

“Eleven Wonders owes me eight months' salary, and we are in court over it,” he stated.

The former Ghana international stressed that improving the welfare of coaches should be a priority in efforts to develop Ghana football, insisting that better working conditions would help coaches play a bigger role in nurturing young talents and keeping the country competitive internationally.

Lamptey believes investment in coaching development, alongside proper remuneration, is essential if Ghana is to build a stronger football system capable of producing future generations of talented players.
