The 27-year-old left-back joins the German club after ending his four-year association with French Ligue 1 outfit AJ Auxerre, where he established himself as a key figure in the team’s defence.
Mensah’s move to Köln comes after an impressive FIFA World Cup campaign in North America, where he featured in every minute of Ghana’s four matches.
The Black Stars advanced to the Round of 32 before their campaign ended with a 1-0 defeat to Colombia.
The Ghana international became a free agent after his contract with Auxerre expired, with negotiations between the player and the club failing to produce an agreement for an extension.
During the 2025/26 Ligue 1 season, Mensah played a vital role in helping Auxerre preserve their top-flight status.
The former Red Bull Salzburg defender made 30 league appearances and provided two assists as the club successfully fought against relegation.
Mensah initially joined Auxerre on loan in 2021 from Red Bull Salzburg before making the move permanent a year later.
His consistent performances and defensive reliability made him one of the club’s most trusted players during his time in France.
Following the completion of his transfer, Mensah is expected to bring experience and stability to FC Köln’s squad as they prepare for the new Bundesliga campaign.
