Sports Ministry reaffirms commitment to fair elections and athlete protection in Ghana Swimming – Kofi Adams

The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams, has reiterated government’s commitment to safeguarding the integrity of swimming in Ghana and protecting the welfare of athletes.

Addressing a press briefing, he explained that the Ministry stepped in following concerns raised by stakeholders over governance challenges, transparency issues, and the electoral process within the Ghana Swimming Association.

According to him, consultations involving key bodies such as the Ghana Olympic Committee, the Electoral Commission, and athlete representatives led to the establishment of a framework aimed at ensuring credible elections and restoring stability in the sport.

Hon. Adams acknowledged concerns raised by World Aquatics regarding recognition matters, but maintained that the Ministry’s approach is anchored in engagement, transparency, and the protection of athletes’ interests.

He stressed that government’s involvement is not intended to interfere with the autonomy of sporting bodies, but rather to create a fair and supportive environment that allows sport to develop while ensuring athletes are adequately protected.
