The Ghana Football Association (GFA) will officially unveil legend Asamoah Gyan as an Ambassador on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, in a special ceremony at the Pelican Hotel in Accra.
The event, scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM, is designed to celebrate Gyan’s contributions to Ghanaian football while leveraging his influence to build momentum ahead of the Black Stars’ participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup this June.
Gyan, Ghana’s all-time leading goal scorer with 51 international goals, remains one of the most recognisable faces in African football. His career highlights include leading the Black Stars to the World Cup in 2014 — and participating in the tournament in 2006 and 2010 — famously scoring Ghana’s first-ever World Cup goal against the Czech Republic in 2006.
His last-minute penalty miss against Uruguay in 2010 remains one of the most dramatic moments in World Cup history, but his leadership and passion for the national team have never been in doubt.
The role will see him spearhead promotional campaigns, engagements, and corporate partnerships aimed at uniting Ghanaians behind the Black Stars as they head to North America for the 2026 tournament.
He will also represent the GFA at official meetings and promote the national teams and Colts football.
Wednesday’s ceremony at the Pelican Hotel is expected to draw key football stakeholders, former teammates, corporate partners, and members of the media.
