Every Ghanaian should be proud – Asamoah Gyan hails Antoine Semenyo after FA Cup heroics

Former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has praised fellow Ghanaian forward Antoine Semenyo following his match-winning display in the FA Cup final on Saturday.

Semenyo scored a sensational backheel goal as Manchester City defeated Chelsea at Wembley to lift the FA Cup title.

The 26-year-old continued his impressive form since joining City from AFC Bournemouth during the January transfer window.

After a goalless first half, Semenyo produced the decisive moment of the game, netting the only goal to hand Manchester City the trophy.

Reacting after the final whistle, Ghana’s all-time leading scorer Gyan took to X, formerly Twitter, to celebrate the striker’s achievement.

“Every Ghanaian should be proud of this guy,” Gyan posted.

The goal also saw Semenyo make history as the first Ghanaian player to score in an FA Cup final.

In addition, the strike was his 20th goal of the season in all competitions, making him the highest-scoring Ghanaian in a single campaign for a Premier League club.

He surpasses the previous record of 19 goals set by Tony Yeboah for Leeds United during the 1995/96 season.
