Former Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan has thrown his support behind Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz, urging Ghanaians to rally behind the experienced tactician ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.
Queiroz, who has previously managed Egypt, Iran and Colombia, was appointed on a four-month deal following the dismissal of Otto Addo in March.
Addo’s exit came after Ghana suffered back-to-back defeats against Austria and Germany in friendly matches as part of their World Cup preparations.
Speaking in an interview with Channel One TV, Gyan—Ghana’s all-time leading scorer and a veteran of the 2006, 2010 and 2014 World Cups—insisted Queiroz’s pedigree makes him well-suited for the job and deserves full backing.
“Bringing in a new coach, we shouldn’t look down on the coach because he is one of the best coaches when we talk about CVs and everything,” he said.
Ghana, four-time African champions, have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia.
The Black Stars will open their campaign against Panama on June 17, before facing England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
Ahead of the tournament, Ghana will step up preparations with friendly matches against Mexico on May 22 and Wales on June 2, their final test before heading to the global showpiece.
