Former Chairman of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Dr Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe, has expressed the view that Otto Addo should have been relieved of his duties much earlier.

The 50-year-old tactician, who was reappointed in March 2024, has since been dismissed following a string of disappointing results in pre-World Cup friendlies.

The Black Stars suffered a heavy 5-1 defeat to Austria in Vienna before falling 2-1 to Germany in Stuttgart.

Speaking in an interview with Kessben FM, the Hearts of Oak board member insisted that the former Borussia Dortmund talent coach’s tenure had long passed its usefulness.

"Otto Addo should have been sacked long ago; he has been a disappointment," he added.

Dr. Tamakloe also criticised Addo for allegedly ignoring advice to incorporate local talent into the national team setup.

"I advised Otto Addo to travel across the country to scout local players, but he asked if I wanted him to become a laughingstock. Today, the situation speaks for itself."

The Ghana Football Association is now expected to appoint a new head coach within the next two weeks as preparations continue for upcoming fixtures.

The Black Stars will regroup in May and June for final friendly matches against Mexico and Wales.

Ghana has been drawn in Group L for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where they will face Panama, England, and Croatia when the tournament kicks off on June 11 in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
