The Chief of Staff of Ghana, Julius Debrah, has applauded the decision to include national football icon Abedi Ayew Pele on the newly inaugurated 11-member committee responsible for shaping the country’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The committee, unveiled on Wednesday, November 26, has been charged with mapping out Ghana’s strategy ahead of next year’s tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Debrah underscored the practical value Abedi Pele brings to the team, stressing that his involvement goes beyond symbolism.

“We are not only trying to operate in abstract," he noted, emphasising that the former Black Stars captain’s international pedigree offers crucial insight.

“If for nothing at all, he [Abedi Pele] has played on the international platform; he has the experience to share with us how best we can be able to present our country on the international stage," he added.

Ghana approaches the 2026 World Cup determined to improve on its disappointing exit at the group stage in Qatar. The four-time African champions, placed in Pot 4, will learn their group-stage opponents when the draw takes place on December 5.
