Ghana proudly participated in the 13th ECOWAS Africa Wrestling Tournament, held in Abuja, Nigeria, on Saturday, March 8, 2025.
The event, organized as part of ECOWAS’ 50th-anniversary celebrations, featured athletes from 11 member countries.
Representing Ghana were Fuseini Issah (men’s 120kg), Emmanuel Lamtey (men’s 76kg), Joycelyn Asamah (women’s 76kg), and Emmanuel Osei-Sarfo (men’s 86kg). Despite facing stiff competition from more experienced opponents, the team delivered an impressive performance.
Their dedication and hard work paid off, with Fuseini Issah securing a bronze medal in the men’s 120kg category, finishing as the second runner-up.
Ghana Wrestling Federation President, Mr. Norbert Amefu, highlighted the tournament’s significance as a key preparation for the upcoming continental championship in Morocco.
“I believe the team is ready for the African championship,” he said. “This event was a great opportunity to evaluate the squad, and those who excelled will be selected for the next stage.”
Ghana’s strong showing in Abuja underscores the team’s talent and determination. With their sights now set on Morocco, the wrestlers are poised to make a lasting impact on the African wrestling stage.
