Former GHALCA Chairman, Alhaji Raji, has hailed Kwesi Nyantakyi as the greatest president in the history of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
Nyantakyi, who led the GFA from 2005 to 2018, is credited with achieving significant milestones in Ghanaian football. Notably, he guided the Black Stars to their first-ever FIFA World Cup appearance in 2006, held in Germany.
Under his leadership, the Black Stars also participated in two more World Cups: the 2010 tournament in South Africa, where they famously reached the quarterfinals, and the 2014 edition in Brazil, where they exited at the group stage.
Additionally, the Black Stars made it to the finals of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) twice under Nyantakyi’s tenure, in 2010 and 2015, although they fell short of claiming the trophy on both occasions.
Perhaps one of the most historic achievements during his administration was the Black Satellites’ triumph at the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Egypt, making Ghana the first African nation to win the tournament.
"Kwesi Nyantakyi is the best GFA president to have ever emerged from the country," he told Asempa FM.
"He achieved a lot of things when he was in office. His only challenge was the other stuff that we all know but for me, he remains the best-ever GFA president," he added.
Kwesi Nyantakyi's tenure ended in controversy following an investigative exposé by journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas, which alleged corruption.
He was subsequently removed from office, and Kurt Okraku assumed leadership of the GFA in 2019 after the Normalisation Committee's interim administration.
