Former Ghana Boxing Federation president, Ambassador Ray Quarcoo, has expressed deep concern over Ghana's declining performance in sports, particularly in boxing.

Ghana, once a dominant force in global boxing, has seen its influence wane in recent years, with this decline most evident in the country's low representation in this year’s 2024 Paris Olympics.

Ghana, which once produced boxing legends like Azumah Nelson, Ike Quartey, and Nana Yaw Konadu, failed to send any boxing representatives to this year's Olympic Games.

Ambassador Quarcoo lamented Ghana's inability to keep pace with other nations that were once considered less prominent in sports.

"It is very worrying when Ghana struggles to make impactful representation at the Olympics," he said in an interview.

He added, "Countries we considered less fancied keep improving, but the same cannot be said about Ghana."

The former boxing boss called for a complete overhaul of Ghana's sports systems, emphasizing that “of course, times have changed but I must admit that things have really gone out of hand.”

He stressed that if Ghana is to regain its former glory in sports, changes need to be made at every level of the nation's sporting infrastructure.
