A parliamentary delegation led by the Second Deputy Speaker, Mr. Andrew Asiamah Amoako, has presented the "Democracy Cup" to the Ghana Police Service.

This presentation symbolizes the service's unwavering commitment to democracy and peace.

The "Democracy Cup", is an initiative by the Parliament of Ghana to promote democracy and unity among Ghanaians. The cup will be presented to various security agencies, including the Ghana Armed Forces, and the Electoral Commission, in recognition of their pivotal roles in maintaining peace and security in the country.

"The democracy cup, as the IGP rightly pointed out, is part of the series of events carved out to mark the 30th-anniversary celebration which commenced last year. Right Honorable Speaker himself has led the process throughout the regions, Marking a number of events".

Mr. Andrew Asiamah Amoako praised the Ghana Police Service for their dedication to ensuring peace and security, particularly highlighting their efforts in the upcoming football match between Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak. He emphasized the importance of unity and peace, noting that football serves as a unifying force that brings Ghanaians together despite our differences.

Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, in his address, commended the Second Deputy Speaker and his team for their visit, describing it as a significant milestone in the country's democratic journey.

The Inspector General of Police noted that the visit coincides with the 31st anniversary of Ghana's democratic dispensation, which he likened to a structure that has endured for three decades.

Dr. Akuffo Dampare has assured citizens of the Ghana that Ghana Police Service is committed to ensuring peace, security, and law and order during the election period and beyond. He highlighted the importance of institutional commitment, citing the National Election Security Taskforce's dedication to maintaining peace and security.

Furthermore, Dr. Akuffo Dampare and the leadership of the Ghana Police Service urged all citizens to collaborate in order to sustain the nation's democratic nature and ensure a peaceful and secure future for generations.

According to him, "Our country is beautiful, it's resilient, and it has become enviable. So we invite all Ghanaians, both young and old, male and female, for us to work together to sustain nature, for our grandchildren to come and continue from where we left off. So that they will continue to be peaceful, secure, and love one another, for us to continue to develop our beloved country for the sake of our children and their children. Let us all be on board and get it sustained, and get it progressively developed for the good of ourselves, for our children and their children".

The presentation of the Democracy Cup marks a significant milestone in the collaboration between the legislative and security arms of government in promoting democracy and good governance in Ghana.
