Former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament Sarah Adwoa Safo has publicly accepted her brother, Israel Kwadwo Safo, as the leader of the Kantanka family and the Kristo Asafo Church.
The declaration marks a major shift in the leadership dispute that has divided the family and the church following the death of their father, Apostle Dr Kwadwo Safo, in September 2025.
The succession dispute escalated into a court battle and a violent incident at Kwabenya in June 2026 involving Adwoa Safo.
Two members of Kristo Asafo had earlier gone to the High Court in Accra seeking to stop the proposed recognition of Israel Kwadwo Safo as successor, arguing that the process did not comply with the church’s constitution.
The dispute had involved competing claims over who should succeed the founder, with disagreements over his alleged final directives, the church’s succession process and the administration of his legacy.
In a turn of events, the lawmaker in a statement issued on Thursday, October 8, said she had chosen reconciliation and was ready to work with Israel in the interest of the family and the church.
“I have immense love and respect for my brother, Israel Kwadwo Safo, and in the spirit of honouring our father's wishes, I publicly acknowledge and accept him as the Leader of the Kantanka Family and the Kristo Asafo Church," the statement read in part.
“Our father's legacy transcends any one individual. It is a collective inheritance and a profound responsibility entrusted to us, as his children,” she added.
She said she was prepared to work with Israel Kwadwo Safo to advance the vision and legacy of their late father.
Adwoa Safo also urged members of Kristo Asafo Church, the wider Kantanka family and others associated with Apostle Kwadwo Safo’s work to respect the unity of the family.
She expressed goodwill towards Israel and her other siblings and said she hoped the new chapter would bring “healing, unity and renewed strength” as they seek to honour their father’s legacy.
