2025 AFCON Qualifiers: We have a good team to beat Sudan - Ghana coach Otto Addo

Cup of Nations 2025 AFCON Qualifiers: We have a good team to beat Sudan - Ghana coach Otto Addo
FRI, 05 JUL 2024 LISTEN

Ghana coach, Otto Addo, expresses confidence in his team's ability to defeat Sudan in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

The Black Stars, placed in Group F with Kwesi Appiah's Sudan, Angola, and Niger, are gearing up for a competitive campaign.

Sudan, under Appiah's guidance, currently leads Group B in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, surpassing strong rivals like Senegal and DR Congo.

Despite Sudan's impressive form, Addo remains optimistic about his team's prospects.

"We have Sudan who are really, really doing well at the moment with Kwesi Appiah which I know personally," he told the Ghana FA website.

"He is a very good coach. They are not a known squad but like I said, they are doing really, really good at the moment in the World Cup qualification games, very, very tough to beat."

Acknowledging the challenge ahead, Addo emphasized Ghana's readiness: "It’s going to be a big challenge, and we need to be at our best. But I'm looking forward to the match. We have a strong team and we believe we can win."

Sudan, aiming for their 10th AFCON appearance, aims to overcome recent tournament setbacks, having last participated in 2021 and exited in the Group Stage.

In contrast, Ghana, seeking their fifth AFCON title, under Addo's leadership, aims to reclaim past glories dating back to their last triumph in 1982. The qualifiers are set to commence in September.
