The Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Mahama Ayariga, has called for stronger partnerships and effective coordination among government institutions and development partners to advance Ghana’s decentralisation agenda.
The Bawku Central MP said collaboration is particularly important in addressing challenges affecting the implementation of local governance initiatives.
He made the call after meeting representatives of development partners, including the European Union and the World Bank, as well as heads of departments and agencies.
The meeting focused on reviewing ongoing initiatives, assessing implementation challenges and identifying areas where increased collaboration and technical support could improve outcomes.
“The engagement afforded an opportunity to review ongoing initiatives, assess challenges impeding implementation, and explore areas in which enhanced collaboration and technical support could deliver greater impact,” he wrote in a social media post on Friday, October 2.
“Strong partnerships and effective coordination are essential to advancing our decentralisation agenda,” he added.
Among the key areas discussed were local revenue mobilisation, improved service delivery, environmental sanitation, digital transformation and local economic development.
The Minister said these areas are critical to strengthening local governance and promoting sustainable development across communities.
