Nigeria midfielder Alex Iwobi has taken a drastic step on social media, wiping out all his Instagram posts, following a barrage of abuse from Nigerian football fans after the conclusion of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament final.
The Fulham midfielder's Instagram account now holds only one remaining video, posted ten weeks ago, with comments disabled, as he faced severe criticism from fans.

Despite an impressive unbeaten streak in their first six games of the competition, the Super Eagles fell short in Sunday's final against Cote d'Ivoire in Abidjan, dashing hopes of matching Ghana's AFCON winning record.
Although skipper William Troost-Ekong's first-half goal gave Nigeria an initial lead, second-half goals from Franck Kessie and Sebastien Haller secured victory for the host nation.
Iwobi, a target of social media bullying, played for 79 minutes in Sunday's final, but Nigeria couldn't add to their three AFCON trophies. Alhassan Yusuf replaced the former Arsenal player when the score was tied at 1-1, shortly before Haller's decisive strike in the 81st minute.
Despite finishing as runners-up, Nigeria received a cash prize of $4 million, while Ivory Coast claimed $7 million as tournament champions.
