Former Minister of Youth and Sports, Major (rtd) Dr. Mustapha Ahmed, has passed away, as reported.
The sad event occurred during the late hours of Wednesday, February 7.
Dr. Mustapha Ahmed notably served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Ayawaso North Constituency from 2001 to 2016.
Additionally, he was appointed as the Minister of Youth and Sports by then President John Dramani Mahama in March 2015, succeeding Mahama Ayariga of Bawku Central.
However, his tenure as minister was brief, as he was replaced by Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye less than a year later in a government reshuffle.
In March of the following year, Dr. Ahmed made headlines again when he was sentenced to seven days in prison for contempt of court.
This ruling was handed down by the Financial and Economic Crimes Division of an Accra High Court due to his trespassing on a land he was instructed to avoid.
Additionally, he was fined GH¢12,000 by Justice Afia Serwaa Asare-Botwe, with the alternative of serving an additional 30 days in jail if the fine was not paid.
Dr. Mustapha Ahmed's burial is expected to adhere to Islamic customs.
