The National Sports Authority (NSA) has rejected reports in some section of the media that the Cape Coast Sports Stadium is unfit to host matches in the CAF Champions League.

The authority also rejected a purported inspection report from the continental football body.

In a statement on Thursday, November 2, the NSA's public relations department maintained that facilities at the 15,000-capacity stadium meet all requirements after being certified by CAF in June 2023.

"The Authority is strongly convinced that, the Cape Coast Stadium which attained its international certification from CAF together with the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in June 2023 is still fit for purpose and can host any category of international games," the statement said in part.

It added that "Recently, the Cape Coast Sports Stadium has successfully hosted several international games including AFCON qualifiers and World Cup qualifiers because it is up to standard and internationally approved by regulators."

The NSA also said Medeama SC, which will represent Ghana in the Champions League group stages, did not receive authorization to use the facility nor invite CAF inspectors.

"Medeama SC has no agreement with NSA to use the Cape Coast Sports Stadium for their club matches. Again, the Authority or the Ministry of Youth and Sports did not receive or grant any request for the Club to invite CAF for inspection,” it noted.

The authority demanded "all Sports Federations/ Associations and their clubs to follow laid down procedures and protocols by first seeking approval for the use of any of our national stadium and sporting facilities before registering them for any local and international competitions."
