Former Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Liberty Professionals coach, Michael Osei has been penciled to take over as the technical head of newly promoted Bibiani Goldstars when the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League gets underway.

Until recently, Osei was in charge of Division One side, Star Madrid FC, owned by Nana Appiah Mensah (also known as NAM 1). He is expected to take over from Coach Kobina Amissah, the man who masterminded Goldstars' promotion to the Premier League after a successful Division One campaign as Zone Two winners.

A source close to Goldstars revealed to the Daily Graphic that the club's management gave Osei the nod because they felt he had a lot of experience to transform the Bibiani-based side into a formidable side in the elite division.

The Daily Graphic understands that Coach Amissah has parted ways with the club by mutual consent.

Coach Amissah told the paper he decided to take a sabbatical in order to spend time with his family.

“The contract of Amissah ended in June but the club's management decided to extent it to August to enable him to complete the Division One League. However, the management decided to end the contract on mutual agreement and go in for a different person,” the source said.

“That explains why Osei, who was among four local coaches who applied for the job, was considered. He will be officially unveiled by the end of the week to enable him to settle down quickly and start recruiting new players to strengthen the team ahead of the Ghana Premier League.”

Touching on their recruitment drive, the source said the new coach had the responsibility to undertake the exercise but hinted that some players would be recommended to the coach for consideration.

“It is the coach’s responsibility to look for quality players to beef up the team prior to the league. However, there will not be justify for the team, so we have to start the recruitment on the third week of August when the coach had taken up his job and become familiar with his environment."
