Ghana could lose its hosting rights for the 2023 All Africa Games, this is the view shared by Hon. Johnson Kwaku Adu, the Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports, Youth, and Culture.

The country although a bit behind time, is geared up to host a successful All Africa Games to the delight of the entire continent in 2023.

While preparations are set to intensify in the next few months, it is understood that the government is looking to invest a sum of five hundred million dollars.

Amid the attacks on referees and acts of hooliganism particularly in the National Division One League, Hon. Johnson Kwaku Adu has noted that he is concerned because Ghana could lose the hosting rights for the 2023 All Africa Games.

“What happened in Sunyani was an unpleasant sight to behold especially when we have the opportunity to host 2023 all African games. We can lose the host of the African Games if this hooliganism continues in our football. It is a threat to Ghana football and it is a threat to 2023 African Games,” the Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports said in an interview with Happy FM.

He emphasized that the “Government has made provision of five hundred million dollars for the African Games, and it’ll be very sad and disappointing if Ghana is not able to host the African Games.”

In the latest development to the acts of hooliganism, the Ghana FA has announced that it will hold an emergency committee meeting on Wednesday, July 7, 2021.
