The owner of New Edubiase Football Club, Abdul Salam Yakubu has commended the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for taking the decision to cancel the 2019/2020 football season.
Following a 3 months break from football after the government directed for the suspension of all sporting activities as a result of the Coronavirus crisis, the country’s football governing body finally decided the fate of the football season on Tuesday, June 30, 2020.
“The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has taken a decision to cancel the 2019/2020 football season following a marathon meeting on Tuesday, June 30, 2020, at the GFA Secretariat in Accra”, a statement from the Ghana FA said yesterday.
Speaking to Accra-based Angel FM on the FA’s decision, Abdul Salam Yakubu has been full for praise for the body as he indicated that it has been a long time coming.
“Government did not just stop football when the Coronavirus crisis came. They stopped all activities including churches. So right now even the trip to Mecca has been canceled so I believe if football is canceled it is no big deal.
"So I will say it is a good decision that the Executive Committee has taken. I will bring peace and allow clubs to prepare. I don’t know all the fallouts from the meeting but am yet to call some people to find out the other decisions that have been taken besides the cancelation of the season. For now, what I will say is that they [the GFA Exco) have done well” the New Edubiase bankroller said.
