Popular Nigerian singer Tosin Ajibade, professionally known as Mr Eazi, has made a shocking revelation about his past, claiming that English Premier League club Chelsea FC had their eyes on him before they eventually signed former Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel.
Mr Eazi made this disclosure during an interview on The Beat FM on Wednesday.
He explained that at the time, both he and Mikel were in the running for a move to the London club, but he decided to walk away from the opportunity to focus on his musical career.
He humorously noted that his decision was partly based on the fact that Mikel lacked musical talent, whereas he had the potential to excel in music.
The husband of Temi Otedola tied this choice to his broader philosophy in the entertainment industry, where he is comfortable taking a back seat to let others succeed.
He also referenced fellow artiste Seyi Vibez, whom he jokingly described as a great Nigerian philosopher, for popularising the idea of letting others shine, while he focuses on his own financial and personal goals.
He said:
"They were gonna sign me. So, it was like Mikel Obi and me."
"I just thought that Mikel Obi is not; he doesn’t have talent as a musician. But I can do that. So I let Mikel go to Chelsea."
"So with this, with the music too, I had to, like, step back, go make a couple billions and then let other people shine."
