British-Nigerian actress and DJ Dorcas Shola Fapson, popularly known as Ms DSF, has sparked a conversation about parenthood and financial readiness, stating that it is unfair to bring children into the world without the means to care for them.
She shared her thoughts on a recent episode of the In My Opinion podcast.
Ms DSF argued that individuals who are financially struggling should refrain from having children, noting that the situation is unfair to the child, the family, and the parents themselves.
She illustrated her point with the story of a cousin who has five children but has remained impoverished since the birth of her first child, constantly relying on others for school fees and food. She emphasised the importance of only having as many children as one can comfortably provide for.
Reflecting on her own upbringing, the actress noted that she came from a humble background and is determined not to expose her future children to similar hardships.
She said:
"Broke people shouldn't have kids. I don't think it is fair to the children. It is not fair to the family. It is not fair to you."
"I have a cousin who has five kids, and she has been broke since she had the first one. Why do you have five? Every week, she is requesting financial assistance for school fees and feeding. It is so unfair. Why have kids when you don't have means to sustain them? It is not fair."
