Nigerian comedian and skitmaker Samuel Perry, popularly known as Brodashaggi, has recounted how he feared losing his leg after being hit by a stray bullet while returning from a brand activation in March.
The skitmaker shared his experience in a YouTube video on Tuesday night, revealing how the incident left him unconscious, unable to move his leg and uncertain about his future as a performer.
Recounting the incident, Brodashaggi said he and his crew had finished a brand activation and were leaving when they heard a loud bang.
“All of a sudden, all I heard was a loud bang. Everywhere was silent. But I could still see people moving outside, people talking, but I couldn't hear what they were saying. It was just total silence in the car. Then I touched my hip and saw blood. That was when it dawned on me I'd been hit by a stray bullet,” he said.
The comedian disclosed that he remained unconscious until he arrived at the hospital, adding that his immediate concern was surviving the ordeal.
He said he was initially taken to a hospital where first aid was administered before being transferred to another facility because the first hospital lacked the equipment needed to treat him adequately.
Brodashaggi also recalled how his inability to move his leg triggered fears that the injury could permanently affect his career, given his love for acting, dancing and music.
Shedding light on the incident, Brodshaggi's manager Olufemi Oguntamu recalled the comedian's anxiety during the recovery process
“Shaggi was very big on, ‘I hope I'm not losing my leg. I hope I'm not losing my leg,’
Oguntamu also recounted how he learnt about the shooting, saying he initially expected a routine update from Shaggi's assistant after the brand activation.
However, he said the assistant's panicked phone call left him struggling to understand what had happened.
“I think it was Michael, that's Shaggi's assistant, that called me. So, I thought he was just going to update me that we were done and all of that. And the next thing I just heard him was, ‘Penza! Penza!’” he said.
The manager added that the assistant eventually explained that a stray bullet had hit the comedian.
Brodashaggi further revealed that the prolonged recovery affected him emotionally, particularly when he watched colleagues perform activities he feared he might no longer be able to do.
According to the comedian, after undergoing surgery in Dubai, he began making progress, with his doctor noting that he was able to stand with support on the second day after surgery and walk with crutches by the third day.
Although he said he had not fully recovered and was still using crutches for support, Brodashaggi expressed gratitude for surviving the incident and promised fans new projects.
“I am grateful to be alive. Second chance,” he said, assuring fans that he was preparing to return to their screens.
The Nigerian Voice recalls that Brodashaggi was reportedly hospitalised in March following injuries sustained from a gunshot in the Sango-Ota area of Ogun State.
Reports indicated that the shooting occurred on Sunday, March 8, while he was filming with members of his crew around the Sango-Ota bridge.
While the exact circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, he was initially taken to Blooming Care Hospital in the Alakuko area of Lagos State before being transferred to Duchess Hospital in Ikeja for further treatment.
