Nigerian singer Adewale Mayowa Emmanuel, popularly known as Mayorkun, has opened up about a tense period in his career when Afrobeats star Davido, stopped replying to him after he resigned from his banking job to pursue music.
He shared the story during a recent episode of the Afropolitan podcast.
Mayorkun recounted that he was in a state of panic, unsure if Davido would ever speak to him again. He noted that during those two weeks of silence, he turned to his faith and started going to church.
According to him, one day, immediately after he finished leading praise and worship, Davido texted him on WhatsApp, telling him to pack his luggage and come to his house.
He described the moment as more than a testimony, adding that he had not even returned to his seat when the message came through.
He said:
"Davido stopped replying to me for two weeks after I quit my banking job. I started going to church, and one day, immediately after singing praise and worship, he texted me on WhatsApp to pack my luggage and come to his house. It was more than a testimony."
"You may not believe me but I haven't even returned to my seat after leading the praise and worship before he messaged. I was on my way to my seat. Before then, I was in panic because I wasn't sure whether Davido would talk to me again."
