Nigerian singer and songwriter Adewale Mayowa Emmanuel, popularly known as Mayorkun, has opened up about the difficulty of finding a genuine partner in an era of pretence and curated lifestyles.
Speaking on a recent episode of the Uncut podcast, he recounted a conversation with his elder brother, who asked him a simple but pointed question about where he had been meeting women.
The DMW ex-signee revealed that he had complained about struggling to find the right woman to marry, and his brother asked when he last spoke to a girl in broad daylight.
He shared his belief that a truly responsible woman would not still be outside at 1 a.m.
He also recalled an experience with a woman he asked out, who claimed not to know him or his music, yet was caught singing one of his old songs word for word when it played on the radio during their second date. He noted that fake lifestyles and pretence have made it increasingly difficult to find the right life partner.
"I told my big bro I have been struggling to find the right woman to marry, and he asked me a simple question: 'When was the last time you spoke to a girl in broad daylight?'"
"You can't be a responsible girl and still be outside by 1 a.m."
