Veteran Nollywood actor Kanayo O. Kanayo has issued a stern warning to some Ghanaian actors who demand the same fees as their Nigerian counterparts on movie sets.
The movie star made the statement in a recent interview with a Ghanaian media outlet, revealing that it has become common for some Ghanaian actors to pressure producers to match the fees paid to Nigerian stars.
He stated that he is one of the founding fathers of the industry, adding that it happens even up to today, and noted that there is hierarchy even in heaven, stressing that the movie industry has hierarchy. He advised Ghanaian actors to negotiate what they want to be paid rather than equating themselves with him.
He urged them to tell their Ghanaian brothers and sisters that it is not their business what producers pay Nigerian actors, adding that they should negotiate their own fee, receive it, and rest, so they can have peace in their lives.
"I am KOK. I was among the founding fathers. You now wake up in Ghana. They called KOK to come and act in Ghana; you, Ghanaian boy, will now insist they pay you the same fees as me. It happens even up to today. There is hierarchy even in heaven. The movie industry has hierarchy."
"Negotiate what you want to be paid. Don't equate yourself with me. Tell your Ghanaian brothers and sisters, it is not your business what they pay Nigerian actors. Go and negotiate your own, receive it and go and rest; and then you will have peace in your life, otherwise I will invoke Amadioha in Nigeria."
