Nollywood actress Oluwabamike Olawunmi-Adenibuyan, popularly known as Bambam, has admonished actors to put in their best effort regardless of the platform their work appears on.
She made the call in a video message shared on her Instagram page, stressing that acting is acting and there is nothing like acting for YouTube, cinema, Prime, Netflix, or Universal.
According to her, the platform is simply where the work is being watched, adding that people with eyes will see the work, whether they admire or criticise it. She described a YouTube movie as a showreel, an audition tape, and a CV, urging actors to give it everything they have or not do it at all.
BamBam warned against bringing mediocrity to set because it is "just for YouTube," noting that a director, producer, casting director, audience, and sometimes the opportunity one has been praying for, are always watching.
The former Big Brother Naija housemate also addressed day players and extras, encouraging them to learn, train, observe, and grow, adding that being an extra today does not mean being an extra forever. She further admonished everyone to raise the standard, do the work well, or stay at home if they cannot give it their best.
"Acting is acting. PERIOD. Whether it's cinema, television, Netflix, YouTube or a short film—when you are on camera, YOU ARE BEING SEEN. That YouTube movie is your showreel. It's your audition tape. It's your CV. It is an opportunity for people with eyes to SEE what you can do! So GIVE IT EVERYTHING YOU'VE GOT!!! Or don't do it at all. Please, let's stop bringing mediocrity to set because 'it's just for YouTube.' IT IS NOT 'JUST YOUTUBE.' Someone is watching. A director is watching. A producer is watching. A casting director is watching. An audience is watching. And sometimes, the opportunity you've been praying for is watching."
"So ACT!!! Bring your emotions. Know your lines. Understand your character. Listen. React. Be present. Study the craft. WORK ON YOURSELF!!! And to my day players and extras—I'm talking to you too! Being an extra today does not mean you will be an extra forever. Being a day player does not mean you shouldn't take your craft seriously. LEARN. TRAIN. OBSERVE. GROW. Learn about acting. Learn about continuity. Learn about set etiquette. Learn how to work with the camera. Understand what you are doing and WHY you are doing it. Because you never know who is watching. Let's raise the standard, people! If you're going to do it, DO IT WELL. If you don't want to give it your best, abeg… seat at home."
