The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has announced enhanced security screening measures for passengers departing through the Accra International Airport.
Under the new arrangement, passengers will undergo luggage screening at the entrance to the Departure Hall before proceeding to check-in.
The screening, being conducted by the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), will involve scanning machines and sniffer dogs as part of measures to strengthen airport security.
“All passengers travelling through the airport will be required to undergo luggage screening at the entrance of departures before entering the departure hall," GACL said in a statement issued on Friday, October 2.
GACL said the pre-screening checks are conducted at several international airports and are intended to strengthen security at the facility.
The company has therefore advised all departing passengers to arrive at the airport at least three hours before their scheduled departure time.
According to GACL, the additional time will allow passengers to complete the screening, check-in and other boarding formalities without unnecessary pressure.
“This will allow adequate time for security screening, check-in, and other boarding formalities," the statement noted.
GACL also said access to the Departure Hall would be restricted to travelling passengers, with non-travelling persons barred from entering the area.
The company urged passengers and airport users to cooperate with the security agencies during the implementation of the enhanced measures.
