"I Want To Celebrate Unsung Heroes" — Funke Akindele On Inspiration Behind 'The Four'

Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has opened up about the inspiration behind her upcoming cinema movie, 'The Four: No One Fights Alone'.

Taking to her Instagram page on Monday, she shared a video snippet of an upcoming interview set to be uploaded on her YouTube channel, FAANTV.

According to her, the idea for the film came from a desire to celebrate unsung heroes, particularly women, sisters, and friends who fight impossible battles without recognition.

Akindele said she asked herself what message she wanted to pass across with the movie, and she thought of celebrating the women who carry families, children, and generations on their backs. She noted that people often celebrate those in uniforms and positions of power, but there are women and friends who fight battles that seem impossible.

The box office queen revealed that the film explores how far a woman, a mother, or a friend can go for the people they love, adding that she wanted to pass across the message that no one can live in this world alone and everyone needs support. She described the film as a celebration of sisterhood, friendship, and the strength of a woman.

In her caption, Akindele noted that she loves telling stories that are real and make people appreciate those they may overlook. She said 'The Four' is no different, describing it as a film about celebrating everyday people who show up and fight for the people they love. She urged fans to anticipate the movie, which will hit cinemas nationwide on December 11.

"Okay, the very first thing is, I ask myself a question. What are you trying to drive out with this movie? What message do you have for people out there, your fans, viewers at home? That's the first question. And I thought of it, I want to celebrate unsung heroes. You know, the women, the sisters, the friends that don't wear capes. Because all we do is to celebrate people in uniforms, people in power that support us, that fight for us.

But there are women out there, sisters out there, friends out there, that fight impossible battles. Battles that are so tough, like, how can they do it? They carry the family, the children, they carry the generation at large on their backs. It's a lot of work, and I thought of it, it's time I let people hear from them. How far can a woman, a mother go for a child? How far can friends go for one another? I wanted to celebrate sisterhood, friendship. You know, we have this belief that, uh, no person, no true friend. They are not there for you, but they are true friends out there.

They are people that will go all out for you. And I want to pass this message across to people. You can't live in this world alone. No, you're not an island, you need people. You can't fight alone, you need support. So let's celebrate the true friends, sisters, that will go all out for you. You will see the strength of a woman, the strength of a mother, in the four, no one fights alone."
