Former Big Brother Naija Lockdown housemate Tochukwu Okechukwu, popularly known as Tochi, has spoken against early marriage for women, arguing that it often forces their ambitions to take a back seat.
In a post shared on his Instagram page, he noted that many young women who are pushed into marriage and motherhood too early end up abandoning their dreams.
Tochi explained that a girl who could have become a doctor, a successful businesswoman, or a leader often has her entire life reduced to being known simply as the wife of a local business owner.
Acknowledging the benefits of marriage, he maintained that timing is crucial, urging young women to complete their education, acquire skills, and become independent before settling down.
He wrote:
"I have always been an advocate against early marriage in women."
"When a young woman is pushed into marriage and having babies too early, her dreams usually have to take a back seat."
"A girl who could have grown up to become a doctor, a successful businesswoman, or a leader end up having her entire life reduced to just being known as 'the wife of Chima Solar Enterprise."
