Popular Nigerian singer Inetimi Alfred Odon, better known as Timaya, has paid homage to the late Afrobeat legend, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, crediting him as the foundation upon which many African artistes stand today.
Speaking on a recent episode of the Afrobeats Intelligence podcast, he explained that without Fela, many of today's artistes would not have been known, and the music scene would not be what it is.
Timaya described Fela as a man who inspired not only him and other Nigerians but also people beyond the country's borders. He noted that in Cameroon, Fela is honoured like God, with a radio programme dedicated to playing his music on weekends.
He declared that Fela is the greatest man and that he can never in his life disrespect him or his family.
He said:
"Without Fela, nobody would have known us and we wouldn't be here singing music. I call him Baba because he didn't inspire only me and other Nigerians, go to Cameroon they honour his name like God. They even have a radio program on weekends where they only play his Music. Fela is the greatest man I can't never in my life disrespect him nor his family."
