This Is Not Normal – Mary Njoku Laments Nigeria's Cycle Of Tragedy

Nollywood actress Mary Njoku has expressed deep frustration over Nigeria's recurring cycle of tragedy, outrage, and forgotten justice.

Taking to her Instagram page, she lamented that citizens have become so accustomed to terrible things happening that accountability is no longer expected.

Njoku highlighted the alarming state of food safety, noting that people are cooking with dye and children risk drinking poison disguised as juice, while NAFDAC appears to be doing little about it.

She also pointed to the death of over 30 young men in the custody of authorities, noting that rather than demanding justice, the nation is already moving on to the next tragedy. She questioned why hashtags, outrage, and calls for justice always end in silence.

She wrote:
"Not just that terrible things are happening. But that we are becoming so used to them that we no longer expect anyone to be held accountable. People are cooking with dye. Our children might be drinking poison disguised as juice. And NAFDAC MUMMY is laughing at us. (E pain me sha.)"

"Now, over 30 young men die in the custody of the authorities. Again, we are already moving on to the next tragedy."

"Another hashtag. Another outrage. Another demand for justice. And then… silence. This is not normal. I am just tired I guess."

Social media was recently thrown into a frenzy following after 37 suspected illegal miners died in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSDC) in Minna, Niger State, between September 15 and 17, 2026.

The miners were arrested during anti-mining operations and were later found dead in a local facility, with their bodies moved to Minna General Hospital for examination.
