Nollywood actor Saidi Balogun has commended the Chief Imam of Ilaro for returning the N25 million that late veteran actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, had kept with him for the renovation of the mosque and his family house.
The disclosure was made during Ogogo's burial, where the Chief Imam revealed the trust and subsequently returned the full amount to the family.
Balogun, in a post on his Instagram page, praised the Chief Imam's integrity, noting that he had also returned unspent balances to the Ogun State government when he served as Amir Hajj, leading Muslim pilgrims to Mecca.
He described the Imam as a true ambassador of Islam and urged others to emulate his honesty.
He wrote:
"The Chief Imam of Ilaro, with whom Ogogo reportedly kept 25million for Mosque or family house renovation. The matter was between Ogogo, the Baba Imam and Allah. After the actor's death, the Chief Imam sent the money to the family and made a full refund on demand. What an exemplary Muslim, Imam! When some have traded their heaven for wealth, Ilaro Chief Imam has traded his earthly comfort for paradise. He did the same thing when he was Amir Hajj, who led Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims to Mecca, Saudi Arabia; he returned the unspent balance to the Ogun State government. Let's check our own individual minds. This is a true Ambassador of Islam, Let's celebrate Him."
Refreshing your memory, The Nigerian Voice recalls that Ogogo's daughters, Lima and Kira Taiwo made an emotional appeal on Instagram in August, seeking help for their father's treatment after he was diagnosed with stage-four cancer.
They had revealed that hospitals had refused to treat him and begged for anyone who could provide medical or spiritual assistance. His close friend and colleague,
Yinka Quadri, had also been deeply affected by his illness, staying in constant contact with the family and offering support.
Unfortunately, 'Ogogo' passed away on Sunday, August 23 at 3:00 pm at the age of 66, according to a statement issued by his colleague, Jide Kosoko. He was buried on Monday in his hometown of Ilaro, Ogun State, following Islamic rites.
His death has since sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry, with colleagues and fans paying tribute to the veteran actor.
