I Apply Common Sense In Yoruba Culture – Femi Adebayo

Nollywood actor and producer Femi Adebayo has shared his perspective on the cultural practice of prostration in Yoruba tradition, emphasizing the importance of showing respect in certain settings.

Speaking during a chat with media personality VJ Adams on YouTube, he noted that while prostration is not permitted in Islam, common sense should prevail when in the presence of traditional rulers.

The award-winning actor further argued that refusing to prostrate in a palace like that of the Ooni of Ife would be inappropriate, especially when prominent figures like former President Olusegun Obasanjo have done so.

According to him, cultural respect should not be overlooked.

He said:
"In Yoruba culture, we prostrate to greet our elders, but it's not permitted in Islam. Still, I apply common sense. When you're in the Ooni of Ife's palace, you can't refuse to prostrate because of your beliefs. If Obasanjo did it, who are you?."
