'Ogogo' Set For Burial Today As Nollywood Mourns

Veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, will be laid to rest today in his hometown of Ilaro, Ogun State.

The actor passed away on Sunday at the age of 66 after a battle with cancer, according to a statement by his colleague, Prince Jide Kosoko.

His remains will be taken to Ilaro today, with special prayers scheduled to hold at the pavilion on Monday at 11am.

The actor's death has sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry, with colleagues and fans mourning the loss.

He wrote:

"With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce the passing of ALHAJI TAIWO HASSAN, popularly known as OGOGO, who passed away at 3:00 p.m. today Sunday, 23rd August 2026. At 66 years. His remains will be taken to his hometown, Ilaro, Ogun State today where special prayers will take place at the pavilion Ilaro tomorrow. Date: Monday, 24th August 2026. Time: 11:00 a.m. Venue: Pavillon, Ilaro, Ogun State. We pray that Almighty Allah grants him eternal rest and gives his family, friends, colleagues and loved ones the strength and fortitude to bear this great loss. May his soul rest in perfect peace. Ameen."

The Nigerian Voice recalls that Ogogo's daughters had made a public appeal on Instagram last Monday, seeking help for their father's treatment after he was diagnosed with stage-four cancer.

His close friend and colleague, Yinka Quadri, had also been deeply affected by his illness, staying in constant contact with the family and offering support throughout the difficult period.
