Peter Okoye Says P-Square reunion Was 'Fake', Opens Up On fallout With Paul

Singer Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P, has claimed that the widely celebrated reunion of the defunct music duo, P-Square, in 2021 was never a genuine musical comeback but an attempt to reconcile as brothers.

Speaking in a viral Instagram video, Peter said he was compelled to tell his side of the story despite anticipating backlash from fans.

"Today I just feel like I have to say my truth. This video is going to piss a lot of people off... But guess what? It is what it is. I'm going to speak my truth today," he said.

The singer also declared that he was no longer willing to overlook what he described as repeated public attacks from his twin brother, Paul Okoye, also known as Rudeboy.

"At this point I'm done being Mr. Nice Guy... It's aura for aura. I'm going to start giving you the same energy," he stated.

Addressing the circumstances surrounding the brothers' reunion on November 17, 2021, Peter insisted the reconciliation was never intended to revive P-Square.

"The so-called reunion was a fake reunion. And I'm going to prove that to all of you," he alleged.

According to him, while returning from a three-month tour in Canada and the United States, he received a message from his caretaker asking him to forgive Paul after the latter allegedly apologised to his wife, Lola Omotayo.

Peter claimed Paul visited his residence in the early hours of that day and repeatedly told his wife, "Lola, I'm tired. Please, I'm tired."

He said his wife later encouraged him to make the second move, leading to the now-viral hug between the brothers.

However, Peter maintained that the embrace did not signal the return of the iconic music group.

Recalling a conversation the following day, he claimed Paul expressed interest in focusing on P-Square, but he immediately rejected the idea.

"I told him openly, 'Bro, hope you're not getting me. I'm not part of this P-Square,'" Peter said.

He added that this was evident in a video they later recorded for fans.

"We didn't say, 'I'm Peter and I'm Paul, together we are P-Square.' It was, 'What's up everybody, I'm Mr P and I'm Rudeboy.'"

Peter also denied allegations surrounding the sale of P-Square's music catalogue, insisting he was responsible for writing and producing the bulk of the group's songs.

"The same catalogue that I produced... I wrote 99 per cent. Ninety-nine per cent of the songs is me," he claimed.

The singer further challenged anyone to produce evidence that he had publicly attempted to discredit either Paul or their elder brother, Jude Okoye.

"I challenge anybody, including my twin brother, to provide any video where I tried to pull him down," he said.

Concluding, Peter insisted that while he wanted peace within the family, he never desired another P-Square reunion.

"I never wanted P-Square. All I wanted was for the brothers to come back as family."

P-Square, one of Africa's most successful music groups, split in 2017 following years of internal disagreements. Although the brothers reunited publicly in 2021, fresh disagreements have since reignited speculation that another reunion is unlikely.
