Davido Explains Why He Reduced His Inner Circle

Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has opened up about his decision to scale down his entourage, citing lifestyle changes, family responsibilities, and a need for a more focused environment.

In an interview with Vibe Magazine, he explained that his current priorities: marriage and fatherhood, no longer allow for the large crowds that once surrounded him.

Davido noted that while he has financially supported many of his former associates, he now ensures that anyone around him is actively engaged in business or creative pursuits. He revealed that he rewards those who bring him deals with a 10% commission, regardless of the deal's size.

He also emphasized that his new approach has influenced his music, as his upcoming album was recorded with a smaller, more focused team.

The singer stressed that respect is non-negotiable for those in his circle, adding that his upbringing taught him the importance of treating others well and caring for people.

He said:
"Now I live with the kids and my wife. I can't have 100 people in my house like before."

"It's not like everybody that used to be around me are not still friends and not… you know. I've set everybody up financially."

"If you're around me, get something to do. What business do you want to do? Oh, you want to open a shop for your wife's spot? Okay. How much? You take this."

"If you bring a deal for me, I'll let you get your 10%. I don't care if it's $4m. You get your 10% if you brought the deal."

"Normally, recorded 10 people in the studio. We're drinking. You know how it is, like party vibe. But with this record, because of my situation, like I can't be having 100 people at the crib."

"When it's time to work, we got to get to it."
"Respect. Definitely. Like when I see somebody acting out of character, respect to people. Respect a woman. Respect in general."

"I was brought up to take care of people as well."
