Yahoo Is Helping The Economy – Actor Ugo Nwokolo

Nollywood actor Ugo Nwokolo has sparked debate after claiming that internet fraud, known as Yahoo, has been helping to keep Nigeria's economy afloat amid rising economic hardship.

Speaking in a video discussion, he argued that the high cost of living and soaring rent make survival nearly impossible for civil servants.

Nwokolo pointed out that workers earning between N50,000 and N90,000 cannot afford rent in cities like Abuja and Lagos, where a two-bedroom apartment can cost millions.

He suggested that only wealthy individuals, including fraudsters, can meet such expenses. While he stated that he is not justifying crime, he insisted that Yahoo has played a role in sustaining the economy.

He said:

"Personally, I think Yahoo has helped keep the economy afloat. Do you expect a civil servant to afford house rent of N3 million or N5 million in Abuja?"

"If you go to Lagos now, the least you'll see for a two-bedroom apartment is about N7 million or N8 million. Who is supposed to afford it? The civil servants? Of course, it's the fraudsters."

"I'm not justifying crime, but yes, Yahoo is helping the economy. How do you expect people to live in this kind of economy?."
