Nigerian comic actor Mr Ibu to be laid to rest on June 30

Renowned Nigerian comedian John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, will be laid to rest on June 30, 2024, his family has announced.

Mr Ibu, aged 62, passed away on March 2, 2024 at Evercare Hospital in Lagos after battling an ailing condition.

He had been on life support and undergone multiple surgeries, including the amputation of one of his legs.

His family has now released details of the burial ceremonies lined up in his honour from June 26 to 30, 2024.

The funeral activities will kick off on June 26 with a candlelight procession dubbed "Mr Ibu's Night" to mourn and celebrate his legacy.

This will be followed by an all-night Christian wake keeping at his family compound in Eziokwe, Amurri local government area of Enugu State on June 27.

The funeral service will be held on June 28 at 10am at a location in Amurri, following the transfer of his body from Eastern Nigeria Medical Center in Enugu.

There will be a Thanksgiving church service in his honour on June 30, after which he will be laid to rest.

Ahead of the burial, a novelty football match between Nollywood stars and Enugu NPFL side Rangers International FC holds on June 25 to further honor the late comedian.

The legendary actor starred in over 300 movies during his career spanning over three decades.

He had battled ailments for a longer period which led to surgery and the amputation of his leg.

Mr Ibu until his death resided in Lagos but was from Nkanu West local government area of Enugu State. He is survived by his wife and three children.
