Veteran Nollywood actress Cynthia Okereke has died at the age of 63.

Actor and producer Joseph Okechukwu announced on Wednesday, July 12, via Instagram.

"I am shattered beyond words," Okechukwu wrote, adding, "The fact that I was about to pay for your flight ticket to come and finish what we started only to hear you went to be with Lord just last night is one of the toughest things I have had to deal with in recent times. I pray I am able to recover from the shock. Life is really just a mist."

Okereke began her acting career in 1998 and rose to fame with the 2003 film "Osuofia In London."

She went on to appear in over 180 Nollywood movies.

She always plays the role of a good mother, grandmother, royal queen and mother-in-law in Nollywood movies.

Cynthia Okereke was nominated for a AMAA (African Movie Academy Award) for Best Supporting Actress in 2004 and won the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards for Best Supporting Actress.

In 2013, she was honored as "AGN Movie Ambassador" by the Actors Guild of Nigeria.
