The Registrar, The “VC”, Council Chair And The MP: The UEW Saga Continues

Feature Article The Registrar, The VC, Council Chair And The MP: The UEW Saga Continues
FEB 13, 2019 LISTEN

I have read on several platforms where the MP for Efutu, Afenyo Markins has finally self-confessed that the conspiracy for the removal of Prof. Avoke was orchestrated by a group of cabals (Paul Barima, Aful Broni, Abakah, Afenyo and Supi with the support of the corrupt high court judge in Winneba). The reasons for the court case against Avoke et. al was not that they had breached any procurement contracts but it was for the MP to have the UEW set aside monies to assist the people of Efutu. The MP knew very well that the highway in question was not built by Avoke. Rather it was built under the auspices of the VC before Avoke. He also knew that at the time the said road was built, Avoke was a dean of graduate school and could not have been party to any contracts.

The MP in his own recorded message compared UEW to the Obuasi gold mine for the Ashanti people. He signposted that UEW was the gold and diamond mine for the Efutu people so; the university had to set aside a special fund to support the people of the area. He also said the university should hire people from Winneba at all levels. With all this in mind, he set the stage to eliminate innocent people and put in office people that he thought were flunkies that will follow him to the butchery house. To accomplish his malevolent plan, he made up stories of looting, contentions of tribalism in hiring, and spurious assertions of an expired council. In all these, Aful-Broni, Abakah, and Barima were animated and enjoying the newfound notoriety. They smelled blood and realized that they will eventually wear a crown that did not belong to them. Instantaneously, the cabal did not care whose reputation they were destroying. They were in la la land and to them, the end justified the means.

Moving forward, their plans were premeditated, hewed, executed and put into a malevolent supposition. In the meantime, the cabal had distorted the issues to President Nana Akuffo-Addo, who attended the investiture. Indeed, this ostentatious enterprise was pregnant with trickery, terrorization, cold-heartedness, taciturn gore and caustic actions just for the cabal to gain control of the purses of the University for the MP to use at his discretion. Unescapably, Aful-Broni, made abundant promises to Afenyo Markins. In the beginning, the money was sinuous like the river of Babylon. They had tasted the exultant blood and a few Ghanaian Cedis were flowing into the pocket of the MP to carry out some promised activities in Winneba; donating laptops to teachers, awarding prizes to top teachers, renovation contract, providing desks and furniture. The high court judge also walked away with a brand new Toyota Tundra pick up, as payment for his collaboration. But you see, in life, things are never what they seem to be. Ostensibly, Afenyo Markins now became the de-facto Vice-Chancellor. He now attends Council meetings, gives directives, spends most of his time at UEW, represents the university as the UEW lawyer and has a list of demands. One of his demands was that he presented a list of one hundred individuals to be hired by UEW. Out of this number, only two were found to be qualified. The protagonist Supi submitted the name of his niece to be hired. Unfortunately, the Priest realized that the lady was a close friend with his nemesis, Dr Sam Bekoi. Subsequently, the Priest and the Registrar did not hire her. It appears in all these, Supi has not benefitted. He was used and dumped like wasted cloth. Poor Supi! Had he known, he would have asked to be hired as the chief of security at UEW.

As events unfolded, the Aful-Broni wrote a strappingly couched letter to Minister Osafo Mafo, complaining about the maneuverings of Afenyo Markins and his intrusion into the management of the UEW. Ultimately, Afenyo was given a copy of that letter and this became the genesis of the contemporary imbroglio. Afenyo thought that with the removal of Avoke et al, UEW will be his cash cow and his own gold mine where he could continue to spend UEW’s money on his political agenda. Now, he has gone on record to say that Avoke et al were better than the current management. Not only is he complaining but he claims most of the folks who were engineering the illegal plot have complained to him that Avoke was better than the Priest. Captivatingly enough, an allegation has now been made against Paul Barima (Registrar) that he forged his certificates and age. Well, it is time they all leave Barima alone. Indeed, Aful-Broni was purported to have plagiarized and presented other people’s work as his own for promotion. Afenyo, Abakah and the so-called concerned UEW lecturers and alumni were very much cognizant when this issue came up. They all sat hushed and did not petition the council to reconnoiter Aful-Broni. I thought we were all created equal and we all deserve to be given equal treatment. If Paul Barima should go, then Aful-Broni must also go. So, must all those who colluded to tarnish innocent people’s reputation and livelihood. Plagiarism in academics is as arsenic as a forged certificate.
