Call it karma or God's earthly judgment, most ardent critics of His Excellency former President John Dramani Mahama, have one way or the other been rendered useless, disgraced or declared persona non grata by their own pay masters.
After losing political power in the 2016 general election to the longtime opposition leader, Nana Akufo Addo, Ghanaians are now clamoring for a return of H.E John Dramani Mahama who has been touted as a visionary leader─ after Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
As the saying goes, “Touch Not My Anointing, And Do My Prophets No Harm” in 1st Chronicles chapter 16: 22 and Psalms 105:15, TodayGhanaNews has compiled a list of personalities without provocation and respect for elders took to the screens to denigrate former President John Mahama with arrogance and impunity. Their tongues which appear to taste anyone’s soup were being urged upon by their pay matters to rein all manner of insults on the former President without thinking twice have now become the martyrs of power.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia
First among them is the current vice president of Ghana, Dr. Mahmood Bawumia. Before the 2016 general elections, Dr. Bawumia organized a series of lectures on the state of the Ghanaian economy, making capital of the depreciation of the Cedis (the local currency) against the major trading currency of the world. He was the main proponent who tags former president John Mahama as an “Incompetent”.
Two years after ascending to political power, the Cedis has depreciated to the lowest minimum in the history of Ghana and the economic situation in Ghana has worsened to the barest minimum.
Moreover, all the electioneering campaign promises made by Dr. Bawumia has become a chafing and has been relegated to the background by the NPP government for nonperformance. Dr. Bawumia has now been tag as a “liar and the most dishonest politician” in Ghana. and his political carrier has bethe en tinted and discredited.
Dr. Mensa Otabil
The founder of International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) and Central University, Dr. Mensa Otabil, once a reveled preacher and motivational speaker during the power the era of power crisis under John Mahama’s administration joined political opponent to discredit John Mahama and his administration. He was on record to have described former President Mahama as unknowledgeable and a thief.
Ghanaians, few months ago, woke up to the sad news about some banks alleged to have involved in several financial irregularities which eventually led to the collapse of 7 banks including Dr. Mensa Otabil’s Capital bank.
The collapse Capital Bank whose board chaired by Pastor Dr. Mensa Otabil, was alleged to have engaged and divided among themselves the bank’s stated capital which forced it into a distress situation that caused it demise.
The BOG, according to reports, advanced an amount of ¢610,000,000.00 of public money to Capital Bank in order to keep it afloat such that depositors who are the ordinary citizens do not lose their savings. But that liquidity support was disbursed as follows: ¢65 million was transferred to Nordea Capital, ¢23.9 million was transferred to IFS, ¢27.5 million was given a board member for business promotions and ¢130 million was transferred to All-Time Capital. Dr. Mensa Otabil was taken to the cleaners for supervising such financial misconducts which caused so much pain to the ordinary depositor.
Otiko Afisa Djaba
Former Women Organizer of the NPP and Minister of Gender and Social Protection, Otiko Afisa Djaba in countless occasions casts invectives on former President Mahama describing him as a man with ‘wicked heart’. A position she has re-echoed several times. She said she will even repeat it when asked in her grave.
During the 2016 electioneering period, she made several derogatory remarks about former President Mahama for superintending over the abysmal performance of the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) which was meant to benefit northerners. She refused the wisdom of some elders who advised her to slow down because it was unbefitting of a woman but the former Gender Minister refused that wise counsel took to it during her vetting in Parliament and other media platforms.
Minority members of the Appointments Committee who felt sad by her vulgar image who was hoping to become a political office holder voted against her approval which became a huge debate on the floor of the house.
The Lord of God unleashed His anger on Otiko Afisa Djaba in 2018 who suddenly fell-out of the favors of President Nana Addo by having her Ministerial position striped off and demoted to an Ambassadorial position in Italy. The bitter and disgraced Otiko Djaba who felt denigrated same as she denigrated former President Mahama rejected the offer by President Akufo-Addo. There was nothing she could do than to resign from active politics prematurely. She said, “I am bowing out of politics to take care of my ex-husband who has had stroke for the past six years. I am the one who has been taking care of him since he got sick and I cannot abandon him now.”
Bugri Naabu
Bugri Nabu, the former Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), also had his share of the punishment. Few days to the 2016 general election, he accused former President Mahama of bribing him (Daniel Bugri Naabu) to turn against the then flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo, now President of Ghana.
He claimed among other things that, there was a meeting where former President Mahama and his brother, Ibrahim Mahama, promised to dash him GH¢3.3 million, V6 Mitsubishi Pajero vehicle with registration number GS 687-16 and a brand New V8 Land Cruiser in order to fabricate stories against the NPP leader. But before that, the then Gender Minister Otiko Djaba publicly accused the Bugri Naabu of collecting people’s monies, goats, cow among other goodies in exchange as bribes for appointees into DCE/MMCE positions in the northern regions.
Surprisingly, a person who refused millions of Cedis and luxurious vehicles while in opposition, really doesn’t make sense to have collected goats, dogs, fowls and cash but by the act of God to disgrace him of deceit, he was accused by a leading member of his government and party Otiko Djaba of those ‘little’ bribes. To crown it all, Mr. Daniel Bugri Naabu, was shamefully defeated as Northern Regional chairman of the NPP by one Alhaji Mohammed Samba during the regional elections in 2018 and has since fusel out of politics. Mr. Bugri Naabu even faked a car accident on the Damongo-Bole highway, towed his mangled car to the venue of the election in a wheel chair to amass sympathy votes but backfired with a massive defeat who got him walking on ‘broken’ legs instantly.
Nana Obiri Boahen
In the heat of 2016 general elections, Nana Obiri Boahen, a leading member of the opposition NPP and former Deputy Minister of the Interior under the Kufuor’s government, called John Mahama a lunatic and continue to state that, "anybody who wants to still see the NDC in power, needs to go to Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital for brain scan". He added that the hardship that has beleaguered the economy under John mahama’s administration is because of some pardonable mistakes certain voters committed in 2008 and 2012.
He made these known in an interview with Okay FM on Thursday April 17, 2014 (see, “Go for brain scan if you want NDC to win 2016 – Lawyer Boahen”, Peacefmonline/Ghanaweb, April 17, 2014). In other words, Nana Obiri Boahen is implying that anyone who will or intends to vote for NDC in 2016 is of no sound mind.
After the assumption of political power, Nana Obiri Boahene was elected Deputy General Secretary of the NPP for being loyal to the party by insulting Former President Mahama and the NDC but later, he was suspended by his party for making a damning corruption allegation against the President, the seat of government and his party. According to a secret recording made by a USA based Kwaku Skirt of Apple68 radio, Obiri Boahen accused top government officials of ‘grabbing and sharing public funds among the top echelon in government.
Details emerging from the audio recording which captures the voice of Nana Obiri Boahen reveals that the Presidency gifted the party GH¢50 billion for its extraordinary National Delegates Conference in Cape Coast. But Mr. Obiri Boahen was heard lamenting that with all the huge GH¢50 billion being allocated to the conference, he was given just a paltry GH¢5,000 as his share of being a member of the resolution committee.
“When we were going to Cape Coast the other time, I was given GH¢3,000 as a member of the Resolution Committee and an additional GH¢2,000 for fuel. Meanwhile, the Flagstaff House gave the party an amount of GH¢50 billion”, he alleged. Since the Kwaku skirt’s exposer,’ the party has since asked Nana Obiri Boahen to refrain from speaking to the media in any official capacity till his issues with the disciplinary committee have been fully resolved. Surprising, Nana Obiri Boahen who said, it will be over his dead body for President John Mahama to become President again, has died a political death. God is really good.
Rev. Owusu Bempah
Another NPP pastor, the General Overseer of Glorious Word Power Ministry International, Reverend Isaac Owusu Bempah who escaped lynching by an inch, had a glooming revelation about some personalities including Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, National Chief Imam and went to the extent to say that former President Mahama will die. Not long ago, he was accused by some fellow men of God of being a fake pastor with a bleaching face. He was later accused of womanizing and other social ills. So, who is Rev. Isaac Owusu Bempah now? I think false prophet is an understatement…Ghanaians have now seen his ‘buttocks’ as a real con man, attention seeker and fraudster with the tricks of luring people to his church with a ridiculous prophecies.
Manesse Azure Awuni
Manasseh after winning that prestigious GJA Best Ghanaian Journalist award continued his professional journalistic work admirably, winning more and more awards. Smoothly he was moving, captivating the souls and love of many Ghanaians. Then he metamorphosed himself into an investigative journalist, anti-corruption crusader and critic of John Mahama. He was for once a non-politically tainted Journalist rising and performing magic. He was feared by state agencies. Private organizations that had something to do with the then government shivered at the mention of his name. He was simply thorny in the flesh of many.
Unfortunately, since NPP won political power, he got himself consumed in the politics of the NPP where political reality is that clowns and pretenders see themselves as the agents of history. Not long ago, he would publish scathing articles about alleged rotten deals and alleged corrupt practices, the John Mahama administration was swimming in. A folder many thought it was for his corruption crusading agenda. A folder many thought he was going to use for a national course against all corrupt practices regardless who was in government. But the Manasseh’s folder was on a mission! A mission to help end the presidential dream of former President Mahama. An evil mission that at the end consumed him to oblivion heights. After being used by his pay masters, he has now been abandoned, denied the lofty promises and rendered useless. When he realizes that his silence is becoming irrelevant, he transfers his anger to Jospong Group of Companies to remain relevant but it is not working for him. We now know what is under his ‘skirt.’
To borrow the words of reggae legend, Peter Hubert McIntosh, “ For how long can you keep a good man down? It is relating to the people and the voice of the people is the voice of the Almighty God”
